The course intends to promote positive behaviour change and formation among student-teachers, and equip them with evidence-based and culturally sensitive knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that empower them to make informed decisions about their health and life, and be appreciative of their rights. The course covers the following areas: introduction to life orientations and human services, rationale for life orientation, counselling and human services, HIV/AIDS, gender issues, counselling approaches to teaching, deviant behaviors in the classroom, behavior management, alternatives to corporal punishment, selected theories of Life orientation, counselling and career guidance, basic counselling skills, career information; and teaching approaches to this course.
