This course aims to provide student-teachers with knowledge of developing four language skills in preschool children (0 – grade R) through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and relevant teaching methods.

This course is designed to expose student-teachers to teaching practice. It provides student teachers with an opportunity to put theory into practice, such as use of play based approaches suitable for pre-school learners; scheme and plan lessons with assistance from their cooperating teachers. Teaching practice also allows students teachers to develop and use the teaching and learning materials relevant to pre-school learners. It also offers a chance for student teachers to solve real classroom and school environment based problems as well as working harmoniously with children, parents and the entire community.

Management of ECD centers is a course that will enable to understand how centers are established, registered and managed.

The course covers procedures for establishing and managing IECCD centres, skills of educational management, organisational structure of IECCD in Lesotho.

The course is intended to equip student-teachers with skills to

develop approaches towards learning, culture and heritage as the

domains of development. It further covers introduction to

physical education, music and arts in early childhood.

The course intends to introduce student-teachers to language development for effective listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in young children. It fosters development of basic language and communication skills - both verbal and non-verbal through the use of play, games and other child centred activities. It will also foster appreciation of literature and reading of first and second language. The course further equips student-teachers with appropriate teaching strategies for language acquisition and development of pre-reading and pre-writing skills.

The course aims at promoting acquisition of life skills, values and attitudes for positive behavior formation change.


This course is intended to exposes you to teaching approaches at early childhood level (thematic and play) with integration of ICT in teaching and learning. You  will also deal with the use of indigenous knowledge and practices in teaching and learning of young children. You will be  equipped with skills to develop and store educational materials. The course also guide you develop knowledge and skills for preparing scheme of work and lesson plans. Finally you will be equipped with assessment skills.


The course is designed to expose student-teachers to learning theories in the teaching and learning of numeracy and implementation of ECCD curriculum (grade 0 – R). The course will also cover indigenous knowledge and how to use traditional folklore while teaching young children,  as well as introduction to research in mathematics. 

This course is intended to equip you with skills to create activities that will stimulate and develop children’s science and numeracy abilities. You should be able to use child centred teaching methods and  activities that promote development of five areas of numeracy and scientific concepts and process skills through the use of play, games and indigenous methods.

This course is a continuation and building on the work done in year one. It is designed to provide an overview of the teaching and learning of Art & Crafts in Primary Schools, including how to improvise teaching resources, ICT and art; and integration of Art with other subjects. It will explore the place of Art in child development where children of between 2 and 9 years practice art. The course will also build confidence in practical production from available raw-materials to create Teaching aids and disseminating those experiences to pupils in the schools.

This is a third year music course for DEP III students enrolled for the year 2021.

The course focuses on providing trainees with basic theoretical knowledge of Art and Crafts. This course is designed to introduce student teachers to the following: General introduction to the course; What is Art and crafts; self expression of what one thinks, smells, hears, dreams; a way a person expresses his /her sense of beauty in all forms of art eg. Drama, music, dancing and functional  art; Classification of art and crafts ; Classified into two main categories; 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art. Terminologies of art and crafts. Various art and crafts terms are discussed with student-teachers as new language. Characteristics of an art teacher ; the teacher has love for the subject; understanding children's developmental stages and growth; flexibility and receptive, interpretation and evaluation. Importance of teaching art and crafts in schools ; Unique intellectual development; physical coordination aesthetic awareness; joy and good habits etc. creativity and entrepreneurial:  reflections on the Integrated curriculum ; Uses of available resources and sustainability; skills in raising money from artefacts. History of Art and culture of Basotho (past and present).Visual culture and theories on African arts; African beliefs - Religion; Ancestorship; the soul; underworld ; death;  ghost; animals and trees; rock and cave art; Influence of other cultures on Basotho culture. Teaching methodologies: Overview of teaching and learning of art and crafts in schools; Improvisation and teaching resources on sustainable development. Colour theory and practical: Primary; secondary and tertiary colours: cool and warm colours; neutral colours. Practical creative abilities: collage, painting and modelling.

PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION 2  COURSE COVERS TOPICS ON FIRST AID,SPORTS MANAGEMENT,ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION,RECREATION AND PRINCIPLES OF TRAINING AND CONDITIONING.

This course introduces computer concepts to students at a basic level. Topics include computer terminology, history, uses and types of computers, word processing and introduction to the internet.

The aim of this course is to introduce basic computer concepts and use to students. It covers computer hardware and software fundamentals (including the use of Windows Operating System), key productivity applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, with Microsoft Office recent package. Internet, web searching strategies, online communities and e-mailing systems are some of the topics that will be dealt with in this course. The students will develop basic computer skills to help them with college and workforce readiness.

This course will guide learners through the key ICT skills and

concepts that they will need to effectively use in their teaching

practice. The course will also provide skills to enable teaching and

learning professionals to start engaging in the pedagogical effective

use of ICT to support and enhance teaching, learning and assessment

in the classroom.
