This course is designed to expose student-teachers to teaching practice. It provides student teachers with an opportunity to put theory into practice, such as use of play based approaches suitable for pre-school learners; scheme and plan lessons with assistance from their cooperating teachers. Teaching practice also allows students teachers to develop and use the teaching and learning materials relevant to pre-school learners. It also offers a chance for student teachers to solve real classroom and school environment based problems as well as working harmoniously with children, parents and the entire community.

Students-teachers will be introduced to emergent literacy. This course intends to use indigenous knowledge and practices to foster language and literacy skills. Student-teachers will be exposed to critical analysis of grammatical structures, functions and usage in Sesotho sentences.

The course intends to introduce student-teachers to language development for effective listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in young children. It fosters development of basic language and communication skills - both verbal and non-verbal through the use of play, games and other child centred activities. It will also foster appreciation of literature and reading of first and second language. The course further equips student-teachers with appropriate teaching strategies for language acquisition and development of pre-reading and pre-writing skills.
The course aims at promoting acquisition of life skills, values and attitudes for positive
behavior formation change.
This course is intended to exposes you to teaching approaches at early childhood level
(thematic and play) with integration of ICT in teaching and learning. You will also deal with the use of indigenous knowledge and practices in teaching and learning of young children. You will be equipped with skills to develop
and store educational materials. The course also guide you develop knowledge and skills for preparing scheme of work and lesson plans.
Finally you will be equipped with assessment skills.

The course is designed to expose student-teachers to learning theories in the teaching and learning of numeracy and implementation of ECCD curriculum (grade 0 – R). The course will also cover indigenous knowledge and how to use traditional folklore while teaching young children, as well as introduction to research in mathematics.

This course is a continuation and building on the work done in year one. It is designed to provide an overview of the teaching and learning of Art & Crafts in Primary Schools, including how to improvise teaching resources, ICT and art; and integration of Art with other subjects. It will explore the place of Art in child development where children of between 2 and 9 years practice art. The course will also build confidence in practical production from available raw-materials to create Teaching aids and disseminating those experiences to pupils in the schools.

This course explores the transitional processes from being a student to a novice
teacher. It prepares student-teachers to be confident, courteous professionals who can present themselves in their place of work. The course provides fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning. It aims at developing awareness of what it entails to be a professional educator. Furthermore, students’ understanding of the challenges associated with being a professional educator and how they can tackle them will be explored.

The aim of this course is to foster a comprehensive understanding of various office applications at
intermediate and advanced computer skills levels, impart practical office applications skills and point out
the important role these applications play in primary education system today. The course is also intended to
help learners become competent, responsible and critical users of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) by making efficient, effective and creative use of basic software and hardware in their everyday
classroom activities. Internet services and web tools for education are explored in this course so as to
develop learner’s essential social skills for co-operative and collaborative learning by using Information and
Technologies such as Social Media and Learning Management Systems (LMS). Learners will individually
or in groups, work on projects for classroom teaching and learning.

The course covers fundamental concepts of computer hardware and software, operating systems, file management, Internet and email usage, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Through interactive learning materials, practical exercises, discussions, quizzes, and assignments, students will develop the confidence to use computers effectively for academic, professional, and everyday tasks. The course also promotes responsible and ethical use of information and communication technologies, preparing learners for further studies and the demands of the modern digital workplace.
